Properly applied eyeliner can spell the difference between looking fresh, well-groomed & more "awake" as opposed to looking blah, tired & sleepy. After learning what eyeliner can do to enhance your eyes in the previous post, it's time for other brilliant eyeliner hacks that you can use for those days when you're in a hurry & those days when you need a little something extra.
Here are some more pointers before we go any further: try to find out which eyeliner works best for the looks that you want to create. Consider your activities for the day and the weather. There are instances where a liquid liner will work better than a pencil and vice versa, some looks are a combination of both liquid & pencil liners. Also, staying power is important. It spells the difference between looking like a refined and polished woman or a tired raccoon.
As with any technique that requires mastery, practice makes perfect. Here are more eyeliner hacks as promised.
When you're in a hurry, try:
- The Invisible Eyeliner: It's also known as the 'no-liner' liner. This trick is perfect for beginners or those who are always on the go. Take a liquid or gel eyeliner and dot along your lashline. Connect the dots to naturally define your lashline. Make sure to take only a small amount of the liner in order to make a thin line. To do this, take out the wand and brush of the excess liner on the neck of your liquid or gel liner container to make sure that you are getting just the right amount. Finish your look with 2 - 3 coats of mascara. Easy right? The Invisible liner' looks very natural. It instantly "fattens" your lashline and sometimes, you can skip mascara altogether because of how lush it makes your lashes look. It's the easiest way to wear eyeliner for those no - makeup days while still looking polished. This goes well with the "no-makeup" look.
For those days when you need a little something extra, try:
- The Simple Smokey Eye: This is a great, easy look if you're in a hurry & need a quick glamorous look. For this look, a pencil eyeliner is your best tool. Start by pulling tight your upper lid and drawing a line from the inner corner of your lid going out. Continue lining up to your lower lashes. Keep your strokes light and as close to the lash line as possible. Stop two-thirds of the way. The reason why it is better to not line the whole lashline is to avoid a harsh look. Finish the look by smudging the line with a cotton swab or smudger. This makes the lines look softer & creates a "smokey" appearance.
- The Winged Liner: Start by lining the middle of your upper eyelid. Make sure to draw the straight line as close to your lash line as possible. If you find it difficult to draw a straight line, try dotting a few lines across your lid with a light hand then connect them by making short strokes. Make the line stronger by drawing a fine line over the 1st one. To create the "wing", draw a short line from the outer corner of your eye outwards just right before your crease. From there, draw a line back to your upper lash line. This should make a small hollow triangle on your upper lid. Fill in the hollow with your eyeliner pencil. Finish your look with 2 - 3 coats of mascara.
